Become an Academy AthleteAre you interested in joining the Academy? The following is a three-step process to get assessed and assigned an Academy Level. Step 1: Get AssessedClub coaches assess their athlete using BC RADAR. Coaches assess their athletes for the following areas:
A score is given in each area assessed achieving a total BC RADAR score. Step 2: Get Confirmation and Enhanced AssessmentClub coach contacts their local center and provides the Academy Coach with their athletes BC RADAR score. The Provincial Coach and Academy Coach will conform assessments as follows: Skill Based on club coaches submission of the TD&M score sheet. In some cases athletes may be asked to do a follow up assessment by the Academy Coach or the Provincial Coach. Performance
Physiology Based on the club coaches submission of 100 meter, 1 minute, 1000 meter, and 16k test.
The results of this testing can be used to adapt training programs to support athletes physiological development. Athletes or coaches interested in lactate testing should contact the Provincial Coach to arrange testing Step 3: Your Academy Level is AssignedOnce an athlete's score is confirmed they will be assigned an Academy Level. The levels and score requirements are as follows:
Maintaining Academy Levels and Services Once an athlete is part of the Provincial Rowing Academy they must fulfill the following criteria to maintain their academy status and services:
Athletes that are unable to fulfill the above requirements due to injury or other reasons will be reviewed on an individual basis. It is the athlete's responsibility to communicate any reason that they are unable to fulfill the above requirements. Communication should be sent to the Academy Coach in their region and to the Provincial Coach. Athletes who are transitioning from one category to another may see their score drop during the first year at the new category. Rowing BC understands that this is not due to a decrease in skill or performance but an effect of shifting categories. These situations will be reviewed individually to ensure the athlete does not see a loss of services unless deemed necessary. |
