High School Rowing

Tired of playing the same sports?
Looking for a new challenge?
Try Rowing!

Rowing incorporates the balance of a skate boarder, the endurance of ultimate frisbee, the reflexes of a sprinter, the back strength of a weightlifter, and the leg power of a speed skater. There is no other sport like it.

Rowing is a year-round, full-body conditioning sport. The whole body is involved in moving a boat through the water. The sport teaches teamwork, leadership and skills in a fun and safe environment.

Whether you want to row recreationally or aspire to make the national team, rowing offers opportunities for everyone. It was Canada's most successful sport at the Beijing Olympics and made its debut in the 2008 Paralympic Games. Some Olympic medalists began their rowing careers in BC high schools.

Get Started

A Learn to Row Program is typically the first introduction for many into the sport of rowing. Although a Learn To Row course is not a prerequisite, it is a good first start. The program begins with an orientation where you learn the basics of the sport including safety rules, boat handling, boat components and common terminology. Then you and your classmates will spend time on and off the water learning rowing technique while having fun.

Participate for fun, Row for life.

Following the Learn to Row Program, students are encouraged to join their high school rowing program and compete during the fall season. After school practice is held at your local rowing club where you completed your learn to row.
