Rowing is a sport for life that often begins with athletes learning to row in high school. There are rowing programs throughout the province for youth aged 12 to 18 and are divided into the following age categories:
- Junior A: Born 1991-1992
- Junior B: Born 1993-1994
- Junior C: Born 1995-1996
Competitive Rowing
There are many opportunities for junior rowers to compete both at the local and national level. Rowing BC strongly supports Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) through an ongoing commitment to providing programs that foster athlete development.
Provincial Team
The Provincial Team consists of athletes from around the province who participate in the Provincial Academy. The team is formed each year and competes at national events such as:
- Canada Summer Games
- National Rowing Championships
- Western Canada Summer Games
- BC Games
Provincial Team Selection
Acceptance to the Provincial Academy and selection to the Provincial team is based on a scoring system called BC Rowing Athlete Development And Ranking (BC RADAR) and selection criteria based on the event.

Funding
KidsSport BC
Established by SportBC in 1993, KidSport is a community-based sport charity that provides grants for children aged 6 to 18 to participate in a sport season of their choice. It is designed to reduce the financial barriers for kids participating in sport. The grant needs to be applied through your rowing club so talk to your club manager.
